The Richardson Racing Team was founded by Gwyn Richardson, a former racing driver, and his wife Lesley in 2008.
From top level British Championship karting roots, the team moved to competing in the highly competitive Ginetta Championships, quickly proving themselves to be a Championship winning team.
With a proven record of success: GT4 Supercup Team Champions, GT4 Supercup Driver Championship, Ginetta Challenge Vice-Champion and with Louise Richardson gaining a Championship 3rd place in Ginetta Juniors, the team spread their base to encompass single seaters, competing in British Formula Ford. Again, they proved themselves in this category, gaining numerous podiums and class wins in both British Formula Ford and, since 2015, in British F4.
In 2016, the team joined forces with Nick Parkin and this partnership has taken the team to a whole new level. With a huge ongoing investment programme, the team moved to 6000sq ft of modern, pristine workshop and office space in Corby, conveniently situated only a mile from Rockingham circuit and centrally placed for every race circuit in the UK. The investment encompasses new cars, new equipment, tools and a state-of-the-art Simulator for our clients to learn new tracks and basic skills, leaving precious on-track testing time dedicated to advanced learning.
For the future, the team’s intention is to continue in the Ginetta Championships and British F4, but alongside this, from 2017 we will embark on a GT programme with the ultimate goal of competing at 24 Heures du Mans.
Lesley brings her BA (Hons) Business Studies and extensive previous experience in the financial sector to her role as Company Secretary for Richardson Racing looking after the day to day finances, organisational aspects and the hospitality side of the business.
With an interest going back 40 years in both motorsport and classic cars and as a former racing driver himself, Nick joined us in 2016 as Commercial Director, working with the rest of the team to expand Richardson Racing into the future.
In the last 16 years Nick’s team of consultants has worked with many of the world’s largest automotive and aerospace companies such as Mercedes, Audi, Airbus and BAE, providing solutions for their business operations and customer relations.
Team Principal, Gwyn has a wealth of experience in both Engineering and training and mentoring young people and bringing this unique combination to the Richardson Racing team is what sets us apart from the rest.
Gwyn began as a racing driver in Formula Ford in the 1980’s and since then, with his engineering background, (a BSc in Aeronautical Engineering and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society), has had a wealth of engineering experience and success in all forms of top level British motorsport from karting to single seaters.
Gwyn is very much customer based now, liaising with our drivers and their families and gives a guiding hand wherever needed.
Andy has had a very successful racing career in his own right and brings this experience to the team in our coaching and mentoring programme, establishing a successful rapport with all our drivers and showing them how to adapt their existing skills to any new situation.
With a background in Mechanical Engineering, Andy is one of only a few people who can race a car on track and understand exactly what engineering set-up changes are required and he uses this skill to de-brief each driver and find out exactly what is needed in any race situation, both from the driver and from the car.
This year he has set up and now runs our state-of-the-art Simulator, giving our drivers a unique learning facility of which we are justly proud. With numerous podiums, wins and lap records to his name, in both GT and single-seaters, Andy raced one of the 2 cars that won Richardson Racing the GT4 Supercup Team Championship title in 2012.
